Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) has increased the price of petrol again, making it the second increase in less than 24 hours.
The new price of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) at NNPCL filling stations in Abuja and nearby areas has increased from ₦967 to ₦1,082 per litre, which is a rise of ₦115 per litre. Earlier, the price had already been increased from ₦960 to ₦967 per litre. Altogether, petrol prices at NNPCL stations have risen by about ₦207 per litre within one week.
The new petrol price was seen at several NNPCL stations across Abuja, including Kubwa Expressway, Gwarimpa, Wuse Zone 6, Wuse Zone 4, and Lifecamp. Other filling stations have also increased their prices.
These include MRS Oil Nigeria Plc, AA Rano Nigeria Limited, and Empire Energy Nigeria. Their petrol prices now range between ₦1,092 and ₦1,150 per litre, compared to the earlier prices of around ₦960 to ₦980 per litre.
The National President of the Petroleum Products Retail Outlets Owners Association of Nigeria (PETROAN), Billy Gillis-Harry, said the increase in domestic petrol prices is connected to changes in global crude oil prices.
According to him, tensions in the Middle East, especially the Iran–U.S.–Israel conflict, have caused instability in oil prices, which is affecting petrol prices in Nigeria.
At the same time, the Dangote Refinery has also increased its petrol loading (gantry) price from ₦874 to ₦995 per litre, an increase of ₦121.
This change happened after global crude oil prices rose above $90 per barrel. PETROAN has called on Nigerian oil regulators to step in and prevent further sudden increases in petrol prices.
