The US Dollar Index held nearly steady at 102.18 points during Friday’s trading.

Gold and silver prices rose on Friday, supported by lower oil prices, amid uncertainty over the outlook for the war between Washington and Tehran, now in its eighth month.

Meanwhile, the US Dollar Index, which measures the greenback against a basket of six major currencies, was little changed at 102.18 points.

Although President Donald Trump said Washington was holding “productive talks” with Iran and confirmed there were no plans to launch an attack before the US congressional midterm elections scheduled for Nov. 3, the United States imposed sanctions targeting individuals and 17 vessels involved in transporting Iranian crude oil and petroleum products.

Traders see a 19% probability of an interest rate hike in October and an 84% chance of a 25-basis-point increase in December, according to CME Group’s FedWatch Tool.
